Have you ever wondered where in the world you might walk on a gemstone? Well, prepare to be amazed! 🤩
We recently travelled to South Africa via Dubai International Airport and had an unexpected encounter with beautiful gemstones underfoot in Terminal 3.
We found ourselves treading on mesmerizing lanes of sodalite and granite tiles!
Yes, you read that right, SODALITE on the floor! Can you imagine it?
This feat of stone mastery extends across a stunning 1-kilometre-long x 80-metre-wide, six-level concourse building! Breathtaking, isn't it? And not to mention a brilliant idea for all us rockhounds.
Maybe it's time to redecorate? 😉
The sodalite, an often unsung beauty of the gemstone world, brings its signature rich, blue colour, veined with white, to the grandeur of this world-renowned airport.
For those new to sodalite, it's a deep blue mineral, often mistaken for lapis lazuli, but it holds a charm of its own.
And guess what? The Italian Campolonghi Group did not skimp on the details when they used special stoneworking machinery to fabricate 2.6 million square feet of Brazilian granite for this project.
Talk about a gem of a job!
Check out the captivating photos of the airport and close-ups of the beautiful sodalite stone and sphere specimens.
This can serve as a reminder of how our beloved hobby connects us to the larger world in surprising ways.
We truly live in a world where the beauty of gemstones can be found in the most unexpected places!
