A very nice Triassic Woodworthia log from Zimbabwe
West of Gokwe in Zimbabwe, Africa, a 30km wide Triassic aged forest is exposed to the surface.
Dimensions approximately 91mm x 80 x 75mm
Weight 1005g
Woodworthia
The trunks of Woodworthia are covered with distinctive bud scars that suggest this species was capable of sprouting new branches and leaves should it be defoliated by browsing dinosaurs or volcanic ash fall. While the trees do have growth bands they don’t form clear rings because of the lack of seasonality in their tropical habitat.
